emerald beauty

I would like to welcome to the world my new print roller from Lawrence's. Oh it is my pride and joy,  my emerald beauty. (When it arrived, I generously let some of my workpals touch the shimmering translucent Durathene surface, then got worried they might scratch at it accidentally, and hurriedly took it back.)

So the other weekend I did some test prints, a few chickens and hearts and whatnot, here they are. I have many more lino-based plans for the E.B., I'll keep you posted.

We visited the Matisse museum which was really good.....

des fleurs

today I had a mess about with my paints

a lovely bookshelf on the wall

I recently turned the grand old age of 25 and so I asked for a bookcase for my birthday. I love its piney shelves. I also received some lovely new books to put upon it! Scripts: Elegant Lettering from Design's Golden Age from my wondrous pal Annaliese, and New Vintage Type from ma belle amie Suzie. V. inspired now.

Other nice things... I also got Graham Rawle's new book The Card which I am very excited to read, and this tremendous Cath Kidston tin with a dog on it from Philippa Randles. I have put my paints in it.

I designed this banner, which is currently hanging outside the Rose Theatre in Kingston, to promote IYAF 2012. You can visit the new IYAF website here, to find out some more about the festival and to see a couple more of my illustrations scattered about!

not at the table, carlos

Here's a thticker I designed at work... they wanted the text to look like the title on the Hangover poster, to stick on their van when they drive to Vegas to run about the desert, looking for strippers and cocaine.

preloved

projecting sign
window graphics, bag and swing tag

credit note, business cards, flyer

This is some work I did for a new thrift shop in Truro called Preloved Boutique.
They resell new and nearly-new clothes from high-street brands, most of which don't exist in Cornwall. You can take in your unwanted things/mistake buys and swap them like Pokemons, for money or for a credit note to spend on things in the shop.
Such an awesome idea, good for the environment, good in this bleddy recesh', good for Cornish people starved of decent clothes!
I wish it existed when I lived there, then maybe I wouldn't have bought that hoody from Trago Mills. I just didn't know any better.

For more information on Preloved Boutique, visit their Facebook page here

study of a nap

I was bored at 8.30 this morning. Jonny just kept napping away though.

shrigley

I went to see David Shrigley's exhibition Brain Activity at the Hayward Gallery and I bloody loved it. I bought his book in a fit of love and lolling. Here are 2 pages I especially like.

clever boy

this is the card I sent my mum for her birthday. she likes to maintain that our cat tigger (weight 1 stone) is extraordinarily gifted. in mum's head this picture could easily be reality.

Friday 10 February 2012

piaf de piaf

Here is my latest cover for The 86th Floor. Did you know, Piaf was not her real last name, but a colloquialism for 'sparrow'. Tres interessant. She was a tiny little woman by all accounts and she liked to peck at the ground.

Media: Found texture background, digitally altered and coloured. Pencil drawing, hand-rendered typography scanned and made into a vector, found sheet music for La Vie En Rose.

See more of my covers and the website I designed for them at www.studio-vintage.com.

dog dressed as a man holding a cat

I found this gem on the internet service this morning! I do love a comedy animal photo.
It's from this blog: http://blackandwtf.tumblr.com/ which is full of many other wonderful things.

Tuesday 31 January 2012

secret lurve

At the moment I'm working on some more covers for the music company who I interned with in the summer. Since Valentine's day's nearing, I was commissioned to do a lovesong album cover, which I was very happy about because I am a soppy girl. It should be on iTunes shortly.... I will post a link to it when it is....Here it is!

Thursday 19 January 2012

mon frere

Here is a drawing of mein Bruder. He was playing Fifa which explains the intense eyes and open mouthed look of concentration. I made the mistake of starting by drawing his big hair and there wasn't enough room for the whole of his big face.

Degree Show

This is a bit delayed. But it is me at my degree show.

Saturday 7 January 2012

study of an obese cat

here is tigger on his chair. clever boy.

Friday 6 January 2012

before and after

shia la BOEUF. trying to reconcile myself with the future.

elephlump

Lino-cut elephant. Don't know if it is the cold weather or a crap roller but the ink didn't distribute very well, it is a bit patchy.
